The leading cause of dull, aged, or irritated skin is hard to determine because numerous factors contribute to these skin problems. The best solution for these is to change bad habits. What is more important than identifying the cause is giving priority to your skin. You can resolve the problem, prevent it, and have smooth and clear skin. Continue reading to know ten habits that are hurting your skin.

1.Inadequate Rest

Every night, your skin cells need to regenerate. Aside from feeling more exhausted when you do not get ample sleep, your skin becomes dark and dull, collagen production is compromised, and pimples heal slowly. You are also more prone to breakouts since there is more stress which leads to imbalance hormones.

Having 7 to 8 hours of sleep, you can have bright and healthy skin cells. These skin cells help your dermis function well.

2.Eating A Lot of Processed and Sweet Foods

Processed and sugary foods can be damaging to the skin. Aside from clogging your pores, they also make the skin rough and dull. It is due to the compromised elasticity and production of collagen.

Although some have skin reactions to dairy and complex carbohydrates, this is often because of genetics. However, processed and sweet foods can cause skin damage to everyone.

3.Not Drinking Enough Water

Drinking enough water is crucial to your body, and your skin is not an exception. You can have clear, bright, and firm skin when you are properly hydrated. What you need to do is to drink enough water regularly.

It would help avoid habits that make you dehydrated, such as prolonged exposure under the sun, long and hot showers, too much alcohol intake, and using astringents with alcohol, among many others.

4.Following Unfit Skincare Advice

Because of social media, many people share skincare advice and information. Nevertheless, they may not be the most reliable sources when it comes to having better skin. What works for them does not mean it works for everyone.

The latest skincare trends may seem promising. However, it can be the opposite for your skin. Some of the ingredients can be too harsh, leading to increased oil production. Because there is more oil, the skin will be more prone to breakouts.

5.Pimple Popping

It is indeed tempting to pop a pimple, but you need to resist the urge to do so. Your body can eliminate spots without leaving a scar. For deep and painful abscesses, this is more crucial. That is because pressing and squeezing them will make them worse and last longer.

Suppose you are very bothered with your pimples. In that case, it will be better to consult a dermatologist and let them handle these safely and professionally.

6.Not Using Sunscreen Every Day

Using sunscreen is the best way to fight early skin aging. Sunscreen can protect the skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays that are present even on cloudy days. These UV rays and air pollutants hasten skin aging, such as the appearance of dark spots, fine lines, rough texture, wrinkles, and many more.

UVA rays are damaging since they can deeply penetrate the skin and can go through windows. UVB rays are responsible for sunburns and possible skin cancer due to damaging the skin’s DNA, but they cannot go through glass.

Using SPF-rich and broad-spectrum moisturizer can protect your skin from these harmful rays. It is best to pick one that has 30 or higher SPF. You apply it in the morning and several times during the day. In the evening, you can opt for a night cream.

7.Taking Proper Skincare Routine for Granted

It would be best if you kept in mind doing your skincare routine to wash your face every morning and night. After that, you apply a moisturizer. You can use sunscreen in the morning and retinol or night cream at night.

Your skincare routine can be as basic as this. It would help if you prioritized keeping your face clean and pores clear, protecting your skin from toxin and harmful UV rays, and moisturizing it with nutrients. You can add more products, such as using deep cleansing masks twice a week or exfoliating once a week. It would be best if you did not skip the basics of skincare which are cleansing and moisturizing.

8.Aggravating Stress

Stress is not only seen in facial expressions such as frowning or furrowing your brows. Since stress causes an imbalance in the hormones, it can lead to clogged pores. The production of elastin and collagen is also affected because stress affects the many functions of the body. As a result, the skin looks rough, dull, and tired.

It is best to lessen stressors in life to see improvements when you look at the mirror.

9.Touching Your Face

People often do not notice that they touch their faces many times throughout the day. Wiping sweat from your forehead and scratching your face are instances you feel your face and do not realize it.

Your hands touch a lot of things. Not being conscious of touching your face can cause germs to be transferred. It can lead to clogged pores and acne. Therefore, it is best to be aware and avoid touching your face as much as possible.

10.Not Changing Pillow Cases As Often As Needed

You might be wondering how your pillowcase can damage your skin. If you do not change it at least once a week, bacteria can proliferate there. Then, these bacteria can go to your face throughout the night. It is also recommended to use cotton pillowcases instead of silk or satin ones. That is because the latter causes more friction.

Conclusion

Finally, you know some of the habits that cause damage to the skin. The environment is one of the main reasons for damaged skin, but your everyday activities are also included. Knowing these given habits, you can avoid harming your skin.
